Support National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, and there are many ways you can get involved to support this cause including raising awareness, volunteering, advocating and raising funds.

year in the United States, more than 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Currently, no adequate early detection screening exists for ovarian cancer, therefore it is important to raise awareness about symptoms, work to increase funding for research, new early detection screenings and treatments and support those who are afflicted by the disease.

Awareness: Wear teal!  Teal is the official color of ovarian cancer.  Get out your favorite teal clothing and accessories to help raise awareness throughout September!  You can also educate others and help increase early detection by sharing the ovarian cancer Symptom Diary with all the women in your life.

Service: Become a Chemo Angel and send letters and uplifting gifts to a cancer patient.

Advocacy: Send a message to your elected officials. Thank them for their support of legislation that supports funding for ovarian cancer research and protects those afflicted by the disease or encourage your elected officials to support such legislation.

Philanthropy:  Run or walk with your friends and family members to raise funds to support ovarian cancer research.  To find a Run/Walk event near you, visit the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition website for more information.
