This is a joint project between sixty five students in Mr. Pai's class at Parkview Elementary School in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and East Metro Women's Council (a non-profit service organization serving families in need). Children and families who are residents of EMWC and attend Parkview have deficiencies in their reading skills relative to the general student population and their access to literary resources is limited.
goal is to acquire a reasonably large stock of of books and other media from Friends of the Library and other sources who retire books in good condition to make room for new books. Mr. Pai's students will write letters soliciting the supply of books from these organizations. Children who are residents of EMWC and attend Parkview (not all the EMWC students at the school are Mr. Pai's students) will help set up a library at EMWC, manage it and will also serve as Reading Buddies. Through this project all children at EMWC will have access to literacy resources which are otherwise unavailable to them.
