Each day, HOPE Center students engage in a different enrichment activity. With the collaboration of over 200 partners, quality enrichment programs are provided to the center's participants. In addition to programs from the core content areas, students are exposed to programs in the visual and performing arts, character education, health, physical education, and traffic safety.
students experience opportunities including workshops from a freelance artist, motivational workshops, and presentations from local museums and theatres. The HOPE Community Learning Center serves as a beacon for educational and community improvement. Certified teachers oversee the literacy-driven educational curriculum. They use the Better Basics Reading Intervention Model, which quickly accelerates learning, for targeted students who are not reading at grade level. Math and science focuses on hands-on projects that will be agricultural and environmental-based. Nutrition and health has been implemented through a series of enrichment opportunities, as well as fitness exercises. Arts and cultural programs are brought to the students frequently to broaden horizons and spark imaginations.Increased physical activity has been linked to better academic performance. Students at the HOPE center will enjoy many recreational activities including a daily exercise routine, gardening, walks and swimming. By participating in these activities at the beginning of the afternoon and having a healthy snack, students' minds will then be ready for an afternoon of academic time and enrichment. Better Basics HOPE 21st Century Community Learning Center at Fairfield would request funding to pay for supplies for students to write and illustrate the healthy eating cookbooks as well as funds for Better Basics' staff to print their cookbooks.
