On a playground lot near a school in Kottaiyur, India, children play under the scorching sun and often fall ill because there is no shade to protect them from the oppressive heat.

ial events must be held under high temperatures, but a group of ninth graders want to create a permanent solution through the planting of saplings along the borders so that children might enjoy their recreational activities under safer and cooler conditions. Further, the students hope their endeavors will minimize soil erosion and promote a source for rainwater harvesting.
