On April 16, 2011, City Year Washington, DC will collaborate with the school to complete a project that will physically transform and improve the environment for the students and surrounding neighborhood.
the day of the event, at least 50 full-time AmeriCorps volunteers from City Year will serve alongside 110 middle school students and over 100 other volunteers from all corners of the community to create inspirational murals, plant educational gardens, clean-up the grounds and classrooms, transform unused spaces into meaningful and practical ones, and support the future of local students through the hosting of a high school fair. The variety of service provided during this event will allow youth from the area to tackle issues related to the environment, education, volunteerism in the community, local culture and history, and community building.
