According to the publication '' Explore your World'' 2007 by Nature Uganda, many children and youth are not aware of their environment. The lack of awareness, understanding and appreciation of the environment among the children, has caused the widespread degradation.
YSD 50 children and youth from 10 local schools will join forces to conduct a nature watch through which they will explore, develop understanding and appreciation of their local environment. They will take notebooks to record what they have watched. Youth will observe and understand the diversity of their local environment. After the nature watch youth will share their experience with their fellow students and community members, and make a discussion on how to preserve their local environment. Youth will use the experience to reinforce academic skills such as observation, identification, hygiene, public speaking, recording and writing. At the end we expect our project to reach over 150,000 children, youth and adults and motivate them to change by appreciating their natural environment.
