Alex serves as the Chair of the Mayor's Youth Advisory Board in his home city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Through the Mayor's Youth Advisory Board, Alex has worked on issues such as a citywide food drive, planning a new teen center, and policies to prevent violence among youth in his city. He is also the President of his school’s student council where he led an effort that raised 5,000 dollars in response to the Haiti earthquake. Alex recently was the honoree of the New Mexico Voices for Children Amy Biehl Youth Spirit Award for his vision, initiative, and dedication to community service. Alex’s major passion is working to get youth involved in government and make sure that elected officials hear youth voices. Nationally, he is a member of both DoSomething.org and Youth Service America’s Youth Advisory Councils and is currently working on the creation of a National Youth Council to advise the President and members of congress on youth policy.
