Helene N. Sims is the Manager of Outreach and Events at Youth Service America (YSA). In this position, she organizes and manages YSA’s annual Youth Service Institute; YSA’s Global Youth Service Day kick-off event; as well as external and internal meetings, conferences, and special events. Helene brings more than five years of previous event planning and management experience to Youth Service America. Helene also serves as YSA’s Intern Coordinator, in which she recruits, hires, and manages student interns. Prior to joining Youth Service America, Helene worked as an Operations Associate with the Save Darfur Coalition.
Helene received her B.A. in Afro-American & African Studies from The University of Virginia. While a student at The University of Virginia she volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville/Albemarle, and studied abroad in Salvador, Brasil. Helene is a proud and active alumna of A Better Chance, an organization that recruits, refers, and supports youth of color in college preparatory schools. As an A Better Chance alumna, Helene facilitates and serves on panels, as well as mentors A Better Chance scholars.
